Core Strength

Good core strength is vital in balancing your body. We have forces and pressures that travel through our body as we are active. We’re rarely aware of this phenomenon because the body does it all on its on. How about times when the body can’t do this, or distributes these forces and pressures poorly? You can feel this effect anywhere in the body through a number of compensation that could have stemmed from a week core. When people often times think of core strength, they are really thinking of or speaking to abdominal strength. These are 2 separate things. Ab strength is the most outer layer muscles of your core. Yes, they flex and extend the trunk in various motions but they are not the core. This is why body builders and strong athletes can still experience back and lower back pain. Your most inner to the core muscles attach directly to your spine and these are the muscles that are crucial to proper force distribution. Most popular ab exercises you may see are not most effective in targeting these inner core muscles. “The plank” is probably the most popular “core” exercise and most people even perform those wrong. Often times, inner core muscles are strengthened through isometric holds and contractions. Most movement forms of ab exercises are taken over and dominated by the more strong and overactive outer core muscles. PCM has a vast collection of true core exercises that are unique to the PCM model. Yes, we also incorporate “ab” exercises as well but even those are performed in a way that includes the most inner core muscles as well. We are your partners in helping you find your true inner strength.
